Jaime Olin, Esq., Legislative Chair, Texas Humane Legislation Network
Jaime is a partner at the Dallas law firm Skiermont Derby and currently acts as the Board Vice-Chair and Legislative Chair for the Texas Humane Legislation Network. In Jaime’s prior role as Legal Advocacy Counsel with the ASPCA, she assisted prosecutors in a dozen states on cases involving dog fighting, cockfighting, puppy mills, and rescue-hoarders. In that capacity, she “second-chaired” hearings and trials to provide animal welfare-specific expertise and helped prepare ASPCA investigators, veterinarians, and forensic analysts to testify. She also conducted research relating to prosecutors’ use of evidence in animal cruelty cases and was the designated attorney for the Equine Welfare team. Jaime graduated from New College of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and wrote a thesis entitled “Children’s Perception of Animal Cognition and its Effect on Their Treatment of Pets.” She then earned a master’s degree in Animals and Public Policy, with her graduate thesis examining the then-current state of humane education programs in animal shelters across the country. During her time at the University of Michigan Law School, she started and chaired the school’s chapter of the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund. She lives in Dallas, and is licensed to practice law in both California and Texas.
